VERDICT DU JURY DE REMISE DES PRIX

Le présent jury, réuni durant les 28, 29 et 30 du mois d’août en trois sessions de travail au siège de l’événement hébergé dans l’enceinte du musée d’art moderne, situé avenue Pedro Henríquez Ureña, Plaza de la Cultura Juan Pablo Duarte, Gazcue, désire féliciter la République dominicaine pour avoir offert un lieu de rencontres important pour l’art de la Caraïbe.

Le jury souhaite féliciter aussi le ministre de la culture en la personne de M. José Rafael Lantigua, pour avoir réinicié la convocation internationale de manière ouverte lors des trois biennales de la Caraïbe et d’Amérique Centrale précédentes, espace voulu par la communauté artistique.

Le jury félicite le Musée d’art moderne, sa directrice Mme. María Elena Ditrén ainsi que toute son équipe.

Le jury félicite les curateurs et, bien évidemment, et tout spécialement les artistes participant à cette triennale.

L’excellence de cette triennale mérite d’être louée pour sa vision ample et inclusive, reflet de la diversité culturelle de la Caraïbe, pour la pertinence de sa proposition thématique concernant la relation entre l’art et l’environnement, thème aujourd’hui inévitable et qui permet qu’on l’aborde depuis de multiples approches et pratiques.

Prendre une décision n’a pas été une chose facile dû niveau élevé de conceptualisation et de réalisations développé par les artistes de cette première Triennale internationale de la Caraïbe. Nous félicitons tous les artistes.

Suite à nos délibérations, nous avons convenu, à l’unanimité, d’octroyer les prix et reconnaissances suivants :

MENTIONS SPECIALES ATTRIBUEES A:

Raúl Morilla, de la République dominicaine, pour l’installation Reencarnaciones Alteradas, installation vidéo qui pose des questions sur la fragilité des relations entre nature et culture.

Richard Viktor Saindily Cayol, de la Guadeloupe, pour Pressing Washing of Brain and Memory, pour la coïncidence et l’intégration entre le langage de l’image et le langage vidéographique.

Heleen Cornet, pour Triptych The Magical Mossy Forest 1, 2, 3, de Saba, pour la revitalisation d’un matériau traditionnel.

Lourdes de la Riva, du Guatemala, pour le film vidéo Dulce Proceso, pour la subtilité et force évocatrice de la plantation, réalité qui a forgé la Caraïbe.

Tania Candiani, du Mexique, pour son installation vidéo intitulée Sobre el Tiempo, qui pose la dialectique entre le temps et le milieu.

MENTIONS HONORIFIQUES:

A quatre artistes dont la générosité de leur participation, de leurs œuvres et trajectoires enrichissent cette triennale : Antonio Martorell, Edouard Duval Carrié, Jorge Pineda et Marcos Lora Read.

PRIX

1) Prix de l’édition à Charles Juhasz Alvarado, de Porto Rico, pour son œuvre De alas iguales. Installation qui démontre sa capacité métaphorique de matérialiser le concept du rhizome et de la métamorphose comme outil de création.

2) Prix d’exposition à Miguelina Rivera, de la République dominicaine, pour son œuvre En tu piel... qui apporte une multiplicité de subtilités et de niveaux d’interprétation à partir d’une économie de moyens mise en relief.

3) Prix de résidence à Alida Martinez, d’Aruba, pour son œuvre Mega Bite Candy (MB Candy), pour sa capacité à exprimer les dimensions historiques et de genre au moyen de nombreux matériaux.

Le jury encourage vivement les organisateurs à maintenir l’esprit d’ouverture présent durant cette biennale et encourage les artistes à continuer de fournir au monde une réinterprétation des réalités de la Caraïbe si brillamment.

1st INTERNATIONAL TRIENNIAL OF THE CARIBBEAN
SANTO DOMINGO 2010

DECISION OF THE PRIZE AWARDING JURY

The present Jury, gathered on the 28th, 29th and 30th of August during three work sessions at the headquarters of the event hosted in the premises of the Museum of Modern Art, located in Pedro Henríquez Ureña, Plaza de la Cultura Juan Pablo Duarte, Gazcue, wishes to congratulate the Dominican Republic pour having offered a venue of important encounters for Art in the Caribbean.

The jury wishes to congratulate also the Minister of Culture in the person of Mr. Le jury José Rafael Lantigua, for having reinitiated the international meeting in an open manner during the last three biennials of the Caribbean and Central America, a space desired by the art community.

The jury congratulates the Museum of Modern Art, its Director Mrs. María Elena Ditrén as well as all her staff.

The jury congratulates the curators, obviously, and particularly the artists participating in this triennial.

The excellence of this triennial deserves to be praised for its wide and inclusive vision reflecting the cultural diversity of the Caribbean, for the relevance of its proposed theme concerning the relation between Art and the Environment, a theme which cannot be avoided today and which allows it being tackled from different approaches and practices.

Taking a decision has not been an easy task due to the high level of conceptualisation and works developed by the artists of this First International Triennial of the Caribbean. We congratulate all artists.

Following our deliberations, we have decided unanimously to grant the following prizes and tokens of appreciation:


SPECIAL MENTIONS TO:

Raúl Morilla, from the Dominican Republic for his installation Reencarnaciones Alteradas, video installation that sets questions concerning the fragility of the relations between Nature and Culture.

Richard Viktor Saindily Cayol, from Guadeloupe, for Pressing Washing of Brain and Memory, for the coincidence and integration between the pictographic and videographic languages.

Heleen Cornet, for Triptych The Magical Mossy Forest 1, 2, 3, from Saba, for the revitalisation of traditional media.

Lourdes de la Riva, from Guatemala, for the video Dulce Proceso, for the subtlety and evocative power of the Plantation, a reality that has made the Caribbean.

Tania Candiani, from Mexico for his video installation entitled Sobre el Tiempo, which establishes a dialectical relation between time and environment.


MENTIONS OF HONOUR

To four artists whose generous participation, works and trajectories enrich this triennial: Antonio Martorell, Edouard Duval Carrié, Jorge Pineda et Marcos Lora Read.

PRIZES

1) Edition Prize to Charles Juhasz Alvarado, from Porto Rico, for his pour De alas iguales. Installation that demonstrates his metaphoric capacity to materialise the concept of rhizome and metamorphosis as a creative tool.

2) Exhibition Prize to Miguelina Rivera, from the Dominican Republic for his work En tu piel... which brings forward a multiplicity of subtleties and levels of interpretation from an underlined paucity of means.

3) Residential Prize to Alida Martinez, from Aruba, for her Mega Bite Candy (MB Candy), for her capacity in expressing the historical and gender dimensions with a variety of materials.

The jury encourages strongly the organizers to maintain the spirit of openness present during this triennial and encourages the artists to continue to offer the world a new interpretation of the Caribbean realities in such a brilliant manner.

JURADO DE PREMIACIÓN

El Jurado que suscribe, reunido durante los días 28, 29 y 30 de agosto en tres (03) secciones de trabajo en la sede del evento en las instalaciones que alberga el Museo de Arte Moderno, sito en la Avenida Pedro Henríquez Ureña, Plaza de la Cultura Juan Pablo Duarte, Gazcue, desea felicitar a la República Dominicana por propiciar un punto de encuentro imprescindible para el arte del Caribe.

Al Ministerio de Cultura, en la persona del Lic. José Rafael Lantigua, por haber reiniciado la convocatoria internacional abierta en las tres Bienales del Caribe y Centroamérica anteriores, espacio anhelado por la comunidad artística.

Al Museo de Arte Moderno, a su Directora María Elena Ditrén y todo su equipo.

A los curadores y, por supuesto, y muy especialmente, a los artistas participantes en esta Trienal.

La excelencia de esta Trienal, merece ser reconocida por su visión amplia e incluyente, reflejo de la diversidad cultural del Caribe, por la pertinencia de su planteamiento temático sobre la relación entre arte y medio ambiente, tema ineludible actualmente y tema que favorece su abordaje desde múltiples aproximaciones y prácticas,

Tomar una decisión no ha sido fácil por el alto nivel de conceptualización y realización desarrollados por los artistas para esta I Trienal Internacional del Caribe. Felicitamos a todos los artistas.

Después de nuestras deliberaciones hemos convenido, a unanimidad, otorgar los siguientes premios y reconocimientos:

MENCIONES ESPECIALES A:

Raúl Morilla, de la República Dominicana, por la instalación Reencarnaciones Alteradas, video instalación, que cuestiona la fragilidad de las relaciones entre lo natural y lo cultural.

Richard Viktor Saindily Cayol, de Guadalupe, por Pressing Washing of Brain and Memory, por la conjunción e integración entre el lenguaje pictórico y el videográfico.

Heleen Cornet, por Triptych The Magical Mossy Forest 1, 2, 3, de Saba, por la revitalización de un medio tradicional.

Lourdes de la Riva, de Guatemala, por el vídeo Dulce Proceso, por la sutileza y fuerza para evocar la plantación, una realidad que ha definido el Caribe.

Tania Candiani, de México, por su vídeo instalación Sobre el Tiempo, que plantea la dialéctica entre el tiempo y el entorno.

MENCIONES DE HONOR:

2) Premio de exhibición a Miguelina Rivera, de la República Dominicana, por la obra En tu piel... que aporta una multiplicidad de sutilezas y de niveles de interpretación a partir de una destacada economía de medios.

3) Premio de residencia a Alida Martinez, de Aruba, por la obra Mega Bite Candy (MB Candy), por su capacidad para expresar las dimensiones histórica y de género con múltiples medios técnicos.

El jurado exhorta a los organizadores a mantener el espíritu de apertura presente en esta Trienal y a los artistas a seguir reinterpretando las realidades del Caribe contemporáneo al mundo de manera tan brillante.
